How to lodge your BAS
There's four ways to lodge your BAS. 1. Lodge online 2. Lodge by tax agent 3. Lodge by phone 4. Lodge by mail
How to lodge your BAS online
Lodge your BAS online:
Using the ATO's online services through their website. It can be used by individuals and sole traders. To do so, you will need a myGov account linked to the ATO.
Through the ATO's Business Portal
Directly from your Standard Business Reporting (SBR) enabled software.
How to lodge your BAS through your registered tax agent
Tax agents and BAS agents can lodge your BAS for you. If you authorize them they can also make the payment on your behalf.
They have an electronic channel which they use to lodge the BAS.
Even if your tax agent or BAS agent lodges your BAS on your behalf, you can still use the ATO's online services (or Business Portal) to access your activity statements.
How to lodge your BAS by phone
If you have nothing to report, you still have to lodge a BAS. This is called a 'nil' report and you can do it over the phone.
Just call the ATO's automated phone service on 13 72 26
How to lodge your BAS by mail
Once you've filled in your BAS, pop it in the mail using the envelope provided by the ATO.
Remember, it's always a good idea to take a photocopy (or snap a picture) of your completed BAS statement for your own records.
You should also make a file note of the day you dropped it into the mailbox - if it gets lost you can prove you lodged it on time and thereby avoid a penalty.
If you've lost the ATO's envelope, send the BAS to: Australian Taxation Office Locked Bag 1936 ALBURY NSW 2460
How to request a copy of your BAS
If you've lost your BAS statement or haven't received your paper BAS, you can get another one by calling the ATO on 13 28 66.
